Swim Bladder Disease?

Swim Bladder Disease isn't really something I have had much experience with.

I noticed the other day though that 2 of my coldwater fish seemed to be struggling to swim peoperly.

They were basically fighting against the inevitability of them floating upwards.

I thought it may be SBD so I set about trying the various things I know can fix it.

massive water change and fed them some peas (I read that this can help) and generally made sure that everything was good and clean for them.

The next day they were fine. They are both swimming perfectly and look a lot better.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Is it something else other than SBD that I may be overlooking?
If it was SBD surely it wouldn't be cured so quickly, would it?

anyone else had anything similar.

Thanks.

hi Steve
constipation can mimic the symptoms of SBD and the fact that you gave your fish the pea's and they seem to doing better today show that it very well could have been just a constipation issue going on. Glad to hear they are doing better today. What type of fish are they? You mentioned cold water fish.. are they goldies? If they are, I have read that they can be prone to SBD due to their body shape. But whatever it was either the SBD or constipation issue, they are doing better and that is great.

Cheers kate.

I thought it may be a GI issue like constipation so I tried the peas.

Yep they're goldies. One fantail and a black moor - A very confused black moor as he is slowly turning shiny and gold!

They're both doing fine now.

Glad to hear it! I really really like goldies myself, but never kept any. Tho I am so tempted every time I see them at the LFS. I just dont have a cold water tank going for them and I would really only want to put them in say a 55g tank. So guess they are out for me for the time being. But I really enjoy looking at all the photos of the member's goldies. Have you added any photos lately of your two?
