83 degrees too high for fish

I have a small ICH outbreak. I have heard that you can remedy this by increasing the temp. to 83. Will it be ok if i turn up the thermostat even though some of my fish greatly prefer water under 80 degrees?

Raising the temperature temporarily will help fight ich. Although it should only be done for a couple days.

you could go to 85 if the ich is really bad. I am sorry to hear your fish have ich. are you doing daily gravel vacuumings to remove the spores from the gravel? I recommend you do this too if you haven't already started.

I have a Ich outbreak as well. Right now my Temp is steady at 83. Looks like my fish do not mind. My guppy has a sore looking thing on his stomach so i am guessing it is bad. Currently i am doing a 25 % water change daily and vacuuming the gravel. Hope i can get rid of this disease out of my tank.

an extra air bubble wand or rock will help alot with oxygen...ich is a pain for sure but the warmer 83-84 for two weeks, will kill it off...make sure the water changes are the same temp ....goodluck with your babies!

What i usually do is, Turn the heater off and let the water cool down to room temp. Do the water change and crank the heat up to 83 again. IS this wrong or should i find another way to do the water changes? Any advice?

i wont say its wrong per say but its deffinately very stressful to the fish to flectuate the temps...leave it at 83 constant for two weeks....never shut off the heater and use your finger test to get the same temps when doing the water change.use a thermometer if you have to in the bucket.....after time, you will get use to just touching it and knowing its warm enough..

edit: sorry for the hijack coffey! I thought this was dennis's thread
