No obvious symtoms but fish isnt eating, what cld it be?

Hi All,

I have a question.

Let's say everything has been done right by the Aquarium but unfortunately a fish suddenly stops eating. Other than that there are no obvious symptoms to suggest its unwell. Its loss of appetite goes on for days.

What do you think could be the reason that it suddenly stops eating?
What action will you take to find out what is wrong with the fish or the aquarium?

Hi,

Water test results are good.
That's why in the first post I had mentioned everything had been done right by the aquarium but yet this particular fish has suddenly stop eating.

Hi Shawnie,

API liquid test kit

Ammonia = 0
NO2 = 0
NO3 = 20

I change 50% water every 2 weeks.

Plants are growing well. No problem with algae.

All other fishes are ok. In fact, 1 of them just gave birth to babies.

But this particular fish simply would not eat. No change in body or eye colour.

I just can't figure.

Its a Gold Gourami. I feed it frozen blood worms and Tetra Granules.

Hi Zeebo
Does the Gourami have a mate? I know after my angelfish mate and lay and protect there eggs they do not eat for a couple of days. Maybe if she has a mate that is what is going on with your Gourami of course I have never mated Gouramis so I don't know if that is there behavior or not. But if she doesn't have a mate could you tell us how long this has been going on? Have you added anything new to the tank?

Hi Speedy,

There is another Gold Gourami in the aquarium but they are not attracted to each other and so never spawn.

No, I have not added anything new to the tank.

I use Rain Water, add some salt during every water change. I don't even add Plant food anymore since the Plants are doing well on their own.

It doesn't look unwell but it isn't eating and it has been like this for 4 days. I am becoming worried. It has been hardy since I had it. Other fishes had fallen sick before but not the Gold Gouramis.

Very odd.....

Have there been any other changes in behavior? Lethargy, gasping, staying at the bottom or top of the tank, etc?

I know you said there was another gold Gourami in the tank but I know that they are sensitive to salt if I remember correctly. I don't know why I didn't think of that the first time around after reading your thread. I think I missed it. Maybe that one just doesn't take the salt as well as the other one. So
if it where me I would stop using salt for a while and see if he or she improves. It's worth a try. It sure wont hurt anything. Good luck. I hope that fixes the problem. Let us know.

Hi

Gold Gourami passed away this morning.
Both sides of its gills were very swollen.
