my high fin tetras just died on me!

water tamp is 76F, only 2 for my nitrates and 0 everything else. pH 7.0. Only they died but my other fish are fine... for now. I just brought them home! The tank has been through the nitrogen cycle. I never ever have good luck with tetras. The guy told me to bring him a water sample so I am doing that tomorrow. I knew I should have went saltwater.

I'm really sorry about your fish. Weird how you're losing them so quickly after getting them. Did you remember to add dechlorinator? Did you acclimate them properly?
It sounds like they might have already been sick when you got them.

I gave them 30 minutes of float time plus a little bit of water every 10 minutes from my tank to there bags. They looked fine and active when I got them. the gourami is doing ok and so are the cories and guppies. the female sword might die soon. I have no place to put them since thats the only tank set up.

Are they're bellies sort of sunken in? Maybe they have internal parasites or worms. Any signs of ICH or velvet? What are you feeding them? I would do a large water change. What do the tanks at your LFS look like? Do they seem to have the same problem with dying fish as you? I'm really sorry about all the trouble you've been having...

its been 1 heck of a week I can tell you that. They have nice rounded bellies. I stayed away from the sick tanks. no clamped fins, ich, velvet or anything. tanks were clear and clean except the female betta tank. only 2 were alive and about 7 others were dead. They get tetramin flakes. I am going to do a water change now.

Oh, that's sad. A lot of fish stores have....excuse the wording on this, I know it's probably not correct.....a central filtering system where all the fish are actually using the same water. I wonder if there's been cross contamination there.

There could be. I am going to get a refund and not store credit. Only reason I went there was to use a gift certificate we won. Since I never been there I am deciding not to go back. Besides he supports dyed glassfish.

gourami is gone. The female sword is about to go. that leaves me with 1 pair of guppies and 1 pair of cories. For now on its natures cove. I never lost a fish from that place.
