What are these Red spots?

Hi,

We noticed these red spots (more like blotches) develop on this fish. All our other fish are fine, and he is not a new addition or anything like that.

We have since quarentined him.

Please see photo's.

We took him down to the LFS and they said he was fine. Probably got into a fight with another fish, and those are the battle scars. We don't believe this as he is the largest and is the agressor towards the other fish. All the other fish are scared of him.

Any idea's as to what it is, what may have caused it,and best course of action.

Thanks

EdnJean

Symptoms: There are a great deal of possibleSymptoms associated with this disorder. There may be spots on the body which appear red or orange. Watch for red streaks on the surface on the body. Dropsy (bloating) is also a sign of a bacterial disorder. "False Fungal Infections" look like fungus but is actually a bacterial infection known as Columnaris. TheseSymptoms may include a white or gray film on the body.

Treatment: There are a number of effective treatments for many stains of bacterial infections. Three of the most common are tetracycline, penicillin and naladixic acid. Salt baths are another effective treatment.

Information: Bacterial infections are often difficult to diagnose due to the many different types. Orange or red streaks on the body is usually the only method for the determination of a bacterial infection.end quote: From FishGeeks.com

Hi
I have had that before on one of my fish, tho it was more like red streaks. I know that you have had problems with your ammonia levels and its possibly the cause. Its very hard to say
But I wanted to add the information above so that you can make your own diagnoses on what it may be.
Hope it helps.

I had skin issues on two of my gouramis (we think our problem might of been Costia)
I tried malachite green but what ultimately worked was slowly raising the salt in the tank
10 gallon tank - 1 tsp salt a day for 10 days - temp in tank was warm 88-90 after a week they looked great and are now back in the big tank.

I know my situation was more fungal (my fish looked pretty bad) but my fish guy told me to try it. He said before there were all these antibiotics for fish this is how they would treat sick fish in is home country (China)
