I think my goldfish might be sick...

I currently have two goldfish that hadn't been in my possession for a while. (I couldn't have the 55gal tank where I was living so my sister kept it until I could have it back.) One is blind; Kazule, and she said he has been for over a year. He looks roughly the same as he always has but now he has a habit of sort of losing balance. Whenever he isn’t swimming and is just allowing his body to be still it tilts forward. I don’t know if this has to do with being blind or not. He seems completely healthy otherwise, he swims around happily and everything. He didn't even lose weight when he went blind. Because i wasn't around when he went blind up till now I have no idea if this is usual behavior for him. He also seems to have a little bit of a black line around the end of his tailfin, but it looks like natural coloring and I cannot remember for the life of me if it was there before. I'm not terribly worried yet but I would hate to find out that he has been sick and I could have saved him.

Have you checked the water parameters?
Blackened fins could mean there's ammonia in the water.
It could also be his natural color and goldfish have been known to change colors as they age.
As I recall, yours are pretty old.

He is almost ten, the more I think about it the black was always there. I am more worried about the tilting. should I be? Or is that more normal than I thought. As for the parameters I have nothing to test them with. I am gonna get one soon but I dont have one yet. I had gotten them when Iwas ten and since I had never had problems I never looked anything up and didn't know about that stuff until I decided to look it up now that I have them back. The more I read about what I should have been doing the more shocked I am that they are alive and possibly healthy.

LOL, whatever you did or didn't do sure brought them to a nice age.

It's hard to say about the tilting since you're not sure if he's just compensating for his blindness or not.
At this point just keep your eye on him.

Good luck
