Platy got ich ??

Hi,

I think my one sunset fire platy might have ICH ? I've noticed today that it is flashing against some of the decorations in the tank. I've noticed that one section in the middle of the body is lighter in color than the rest ... seems that he/she has maybe scraped off some of the coating. I don't see any "salt cristal" spots and so far it was the only one doing it.

The water quality has been generally good, the platies were the last ones I added to the tank, but they were in my quarantine tank for over a week and have been in the main tank for 2 weeks already.

As a side note, it is the "biggest" platy and I'm wondering if "she" might be pregnant and flashing for that reason.

In any case. My water quality has been very good, the last week or so I've been having white cloudy water ... I did a good water change and 2 days later I gave the filter a good cleaning. 3 days later .. it was turning cloudy again. That is why I suspect ich since maybe something is up with my water. Water readings are good though, ammonia 0, netrites 0, nitrates +/- 5

So here is my case of what to do:

I have a quarantine tank, 14g already cycled and housing 5 neon tetras (keeping it cycled). Should I move the 5 tetras to the main tank and the one platy to the quarantine tank and medicate it ? Or should I medicate the main tank?

Not to say that I'm going to do a water change again on the main tank / vacuum and maybe turn the heat up above 78?

Suggestions please!

cloudy water is sometimes a sign of a bacteria bloom...what test kit are you using? sounds like it could have gone into a mini cycle because of a "good filter cleaning" I wouldnt move anything until you figure out whats going on first...

Thanks for the reply ...

I'm keeping an eye on it, but I saw two of the glow light tetras that have white dots on their tail fins that I'm kinda sure I didn't see before. So I want to get ready. What is the best treatment for ich (my first case if you haven't already noticed) ... should I get a chemical and then which one ? Or should I try the heat and salt approach ?

Thanks

Apparently, raising the tank temperature to +/- 84 degrees for a couple of weeks will do the trick. At least, that's what I was just told.

yes raise the temps as zoreta said, add an extra airation or bubble wand of somekind as warmer water has less oxygen, and do a couple gravel vacs a week as ich spores hide in the gravel...goodluck!

For Ich....raising the temp slowly to 83/84F and increase aeration to make up for less oxygen in the water.
Leave it there for at least 2 weeks then do a thorough vacumm to get rid of any spores.

I don't think your cories can tolerate salt.
