damaged fins?

My neon tetras have bits of their fins missing, and i'm not sure why...i've researched fin rot, incase the water quality is low, and the fins are rotting, but it doesn't look anything like fin rot. Its like big chunks as if something has bitten them. Research tells me that sometimes fish nip eachothers fins, but when i watch the fish, nothing appears to happen....

Any ideas as to what else this could be?

The neons are acting normal, swimming and eating fine, its just their fins.

It sounds like they're nipping each other. This could be happening when the lights go out. How many do you have and are there any other fish in there? Is this the 30L tank?

What are the readings for ammonia nitrites and nitrates?

Yes it is, the 30L tank....there are 3 glowlights, and 3 neons. IK'm still waiting on the test kit, i'm sorry for the delay, but delivery is slow.

There is plenty of space in there, the temp is fine, and there are no ammonia burns

sorry, i meant "i'm" on that 2nd sentence!

lol, that's ok, I can read typo. I write it well too
You can use the edit button on the bottom right hand side of your post to edit.

I'm sorry to say, but it may look like there's plenty of room to us, but to the fish it's not, they need more swim room than a bio-orb provides.

Even if there aren't ammonia burns doesn't mean there isn't any ammonia. Only a test of the water can confirm that.
Was the tank cycled before? How often are you changing the water?
Do you have a heater?

Schooling fish will often nip each other when not kept in proper schools.
Keeping the water clean with some extra Stress Coat will help with the regrowth, but I'm afraid in such a small tank they will continue to nip.
Other than getting a larger tank and increasing the size of their school, you might want to add some plants so they can hide and be out of the line of site from each other.

Like i have said in previous posts, i only cycled for a week, and as i've been told before, i know that was too soon to add fish, but i didn't realise at the time! I do daily water changes, and i have a heater....

there are already lots of plants, so unless all the fish are on the same side of the tank, they can't see eachother...I'll test the ammonia levels as soon as i get the test kit, i promise!...

Would it help, if i removed the glowlights and replaced them with neon tetras, so there is a larger school of tetras?

PS: I can't get a bigger tank, as they are all too expensive, and i've already wasted money on this tank

Wow, I looked up the biorb. Holy cow they're expensive. It's pretty, but sadly not functional for fish that need swim room.

No one can say for sure that returning the glowlights and adding more tetra will definitely cure the nipping. With fish, you just never know.
They're the same size and shape, sometimes they'll all school together.

Yer, i know....can you help me on my other post about BiOrbs too? I'm really stuck here...those dang fish salesman...they don't care whether i waste money on a BiOrb or not!
