Hi everyone

My red tailed black shark seems to have a white patch on one side.
What could this be and how should i treat it?
please help..

p.s. Is API Pimafix any good?

Provided that water is OK and it is only RTB Shark, just continue to monitor.
If more than one, it could be from pushing and shubbing b/n them.

Its a small patch. Its now been 3 days since i noticed it. The fellow at the LFS said that maybe it scuffed itself against something. but also that it may possibly be a fungal infection, eg beginning of white cotton, therefore im ttreating it with Pimafix...
however as soon as i apply a daily dosage, some 2 out of my three platys behave doped up and rest on the substrate...

Is the patch raised like it is on the surface, or is it concave as a scuff? Don't medicate the tank until you know what it is, especially when there are other fish in the tank that will be stressed from the medication.

I agree with beeker...why are LFS so excited and jumps that bandwagon to sell meds...they are guessing genius's for sure!! grrrr

Sorry to hear what happened! Hopefully, as we share our info and experiences on our forum , more hobbyis will learn not to jump to conclusion which can result in disater,not too mention heart aches.

its just that in the past a had a platy and it had a small patch that seems to have been scraped of, with some scale missing. I did nothing as it seemd fine. eating swimming around quite happily. Then one morning it was on the substrate floor keeling over. In a few hours i found it had passed away :-(.
I would rather be safe than sorry. Medication is supposed to be a good thing right? not supposed to be harmful..?
Ive read in another thread that Pimafix actually contains some clover oil !? Olive oil is used to euthanize fish !
