Rid Fungus

What are some safe medications to use with Tetra's. I've heard they are somewhat sensitive to medications. Would Rid-Fungus be safe to use with them. What about Maracyn I and Maracyn II? My friend has tetra's that look like they may have a fungus at the base of their tail its kinda a bulged out area thats slightly white. I'll see if I can get some pictures posted.

I'm sorry your friend is having problems with their fish.

Any of those medications would be fine with tetras. If they have inverts in the tank, read the directions, it'll say if they're safe for them.

If you don't have any labyrinth fish, you might want to try Mela- or Pima-Fix. One of them is an effective anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

If you'd prefer to use other medications (possibly more effective, but also more harsh), try to figure out what it is you're dealing with. That will dictate the type of med you'll be using. For example, Maracyn and Maracyn II, as far as I know, would have little or no effect on a fungus (they may actually open the way for a worse infection by removing beneficial fauna from the skin of the fish).

Without knowing your tank ( tank size, age, livestock, Water conditions, etc..), it is very difficult to share the informations.
But if it is fungal infections and/or bacterial infection (Fin Rot), I had great success treating most fish which has either or both infection by applying Bacitracin (Common anti-bacterial Ointment found at local Drug Store) on the fin/tail using Q-tip. Just be careful to do so on the floor because I don't want to see fish performing skydiving w/o parachute.
I , at this time, am keeping local s/w fish that i and my children collected over the summer. From time to time different fish will develop problem from injuries received due to nipping, fighting, etc..
Always had greast success when treated early.
