Not sure what is wrong with my fish

I have a 10 gallon planted tank that has been up and running for about 4 months now. I had 4 lemon tetras in that were perfectly happy until Hurricane Ike hit and we were without power for about a week and a half. They all got ick and died. I have cleaned out the tank and put new plants in it consisting of Cabomba and Java moss. I'm doing a low tech tank right now to just see if I can keep the plants alive, so no CO2. My water tests are all fine and the plants look very healthy. I had put 6 white cloud minnows in which I had read were very hearty fish. I have lost 2 of them in about 3 days. They seem to swell up and their eyes start to bulge out and it looks like their mouths are open all the time because they're so swollen. I have read up on pop-eye but does their whole body swell with that? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Heather welcome to Fish Lore

I'm sorry to hear you lost your fish to Ike, I hope you and your family fared well.

It's distressing when our fish are ill, I'm sorry you're having problems.

What are your readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates? Are they eating and producing waste?

you probably started a new cycle from cleaning everything off ...knowing your water parimeters will help alot...

Did you cycle the tank after you cleaned it? if not, it certainly looks like ammonia poisoning. On the other hand, check your tank temp and the White Cloud Minnows recommended temp range. This fish may be hardy but I believe they need more dissolved oxygen than others usually do (I could be wrong, I haven't kept those fish ever).

If your tank is cycled, please upload some pics for fishlorinas to see, and search for pics of fish disease and see if you can identify what happens. If their body is swollen it may be dropsy, and that would be bad news for you.

No matter what do partial water changes for now until we figure out what's happening.
