Simple Question

I have a very small ICH problem in my guppy tank. I was wondering if it is safe to medicate the aquarium even though it has very young fry in it

I wouldnt medicate even without fry..but fry dont handle meds to often ..turn up the temps to 83f for two weeks and a few extra water changes with a good gravel vac for the ich spores, should do the trick...an extra bubble wand for some more oxygen would help as warmer temps has less oxygen...goodluck!

With ich, you don't need to medicate the aquarium. Just raise the temperature of your water (slowly) to 84 degrees and keep it at that temperature for 14 days. The parasite cannot survive at that temp and it will die off on its own. I have gotten rid of all of my ich outbreaks this way and I have never had to medicate. I think it will be a lot easier on your fry as well

I don't have guppies and I've never had ich in any of my tanks while having fry in them. But I would say you should treat the tank and the fish... ich could kill them! So just raise the temperature slowly so the fish can get use to it, treat the water, and leave it at a high temperature for at least 5 or 6 days.

I hope this is not bad advice (with the fry and all) but I'm sure the forum members will correct me if I'm wrong.

Good luck with the ich!

You can check this out for more detail regarding ich etc.

I don't think that it is necessary for him to treat the tank with meds. With fry, he should avoid using meds as much as possible. He needs to raise the tank temp for 14 days, any less than that and the parasite won't go away completely.
