zebra danio not active and tail rising... uh oh?

Hi there,

So... heres the deal. I have a 55g tank, and I had 4 zebras (I had 6, but two were really mean and where chasing everyone), and 3 neons. I don't live near a pet store, so last week when I was by one, I bought 6 neons, 4 guppies, and 6 other small tetras. (very cute, very small). I know this was a lot of fish to add, but I figured they were all small and peaceful.

Well, the new fish are fine, and so are the old neons, but the zebras are having some problems. The largest one has started to chase all the other zebras and neons and be really mean. I put him his own area until we give him away tomorrow morning. He kept chasing and picking on the smallest zebra the most, and now I think the small one is sick. He doesn't swim around, and I know zebras are quite active. He didn't eat this morning. and he stays still and then his tail starts to rise and float upward and he regains himself. Quite strange.

Has anyone heard of this? Any suggestions Thanks SO MUCH!

its could be a mini cycle with too much ammonia for the beneficial bacteria to catch up ...have you tested the water ince adding all those at once? I hope he recovers!!!

thanks for the quick response. I forgot to mention that about 2 weeks ago I spilled a container of fish food in my tank. every few days I have been doing around a 1/3 partial water change and I just completed another one. I thought maybe poor water quality was getting to him. Maybe I have been cleaning the water too much.

Anyway, I did a testing of my water and I have no ammonia, pH 8-8.2, my nitrate level is a little low... under 5.0. but not quite 0. nitrite 0.

The fish all seem pretty happy now, they are still dancing around, and my sick guy even seems better for now. he is the smallest of all the zebras, maybe he gets picked on too much. he doesn't seem to want to go by the other 3 zebras, but is acting clumsey.
