One of my new juvenile Discus has what appears to be Pop-eye. One eye is definately bulging, and appears larger than the other eye. It is not real bad but noticeable still the same. He is in a tank which is currently being treated for Cyanobacteria (low dose, Erythromycin EM). I can't recall if Erythromycin is capable of treating the bacteria that causes Pop-eye, but my feelings lead me to believe it will not. Anyway, I will be setting up a hospital tank tomorrow and would like to know what I should use to medicate? Right now I am leaning toward Maracyn II or Triple Sulpha. Which would be better/safer for a Discus?

Here are the water parameters:

ammonia = 0
nitrite = 0
nitrate = 5

I'm not sure about discus, but I used Maracyn 2 on my betta's popeye and it worked great.

OK, today is the 5th day of the Maracyn II treatments. While his eye looks a little better, the pop-eye is not 100 percent. I will do a large water change tomorrow and continue with another round of treatments. Should I continue with the Maracyn II, or try something like Triple Sulpha? This is one of my favorite Discus, and I really want to get him well. Anyone else ever have trouble knocking out a serious bacterial infection?

I am still trying to get this guy healthy. I have gone through two rounds of Maracyn II and one round of Penicillin and have seen little or no improvement. I have been doing daily 50% water changes for the past week. How long before I should see an improvement? Are there any other treatments that can be recommended? My water conditions have been and remain perfect (0/0/<5).
