That may or may not work... I work at a pharmacy, and some tablet type medications may not be mixed very well overall. So if you break them up, most of the medication may have all been in the half or quarter that you didnt use, or vise versa.
The safest and most effective way would be to dissolve the tab in 10 gallons of water (like in a large container) and then use that water to fill up your tank =)
(Obviously you would need to drain the 2.5g completely to achieve this)
