Please help! Black Moor has white ring on back - I'm very worried!

Please help me.

I have 1 Black Moor in a round bowl - approximately 9 litres capacity. The bowl has gravel, a carbon filter that is attached to the bottom of the tank (under gravel), a live plant (don't know what type) and a 'rock'.

I bought Kipper four weeks ago (new tank) and was doing well until four days ago when a white spot developed on his back. He's since lost appetite and is not as active.

I have done two treatments to the water with a White Spot solution (don't know what brand), but the whtie spot has grown further and is in a ring shape.

Please help me.

Should I put him in a salt solution for 10 minutes and back into his tank?

Should I clean the tank to 50%? I'm worried about stressing him

I don't know of ammonia/nitrate levels - I don't have a testing kit.

If I bought a testing kit, and the levels are out of suitable range, how do you treat it?

Please help me

Hi Bec,

Turn up your heater to treat white spots.
U have to get a liquid test kit for accurate results.
If the test results ain't good, u will have to change 50% water.
Keep testing and keep changing till u get good results.
Add live plants; they absorb some ammonia & nitrites.

Good Luck.

It dosn't sount like white spot to me...if it is it would look like the fish had been rolled in salt. Is it raised or cottony looking? Is the fish holding it's fins close to it's body or holding them normally?? Is he flashing??( swiming down sideways on the bottom to scratch )

I'd recommend getting him into a tank (80 litres or more) with filtration and water at about 21-22C. You'll want to do 50% water changes daily to help keep the water toxins lower.
