Before I went on vacation, I noticed my red wag acting a little strange. She would go hide in small areas, pretty much sitting on the bottom breathing heavily. When I went to look at her, she would zip away and go hide somewhere else. She is much much more skittish than before.
I couldn't do very much, because I was leaving for vacation the next day, so I put her in the quarantine tank, not expecting her to live until the next day.
Well, she did, so I before I left, I did a water change, and kept her in the quarantine tank. When I got back, she was still living, and she seemed to be doing a little better. I did a water change, and I thought all was well.
Today, my red wag's anus had swelled up or something or she had a growth of some kind there. (I attached a picture of it) Not eating much....her poop was very skinny, and not much.

So anyways, what I'm wondering is, what is this growth or whatever? Is it contagious? How do I get rid of it?

Is there any little red threads hanging out of it ...( may be there sometimes other times not as they move in and out)??

Nope, I don't see anything hanging out of it.
Mmm....I tested the water, everything's normal.
Previous tank mates were one molly, a couple other platies, and two cherry barbs.

Sorry to say I don't know what it is then..it is good that there ae no red threads as those are a very nasty parasite... could it be a prolapsed rectum??

That could be an ulcer and would treat her with Melafix.. and Vita-chem, Fish Protector and Garlic Guard if you have them.

Ack, she passed last night :/
I have no idea what is going on with my fish. I've lost pretty much all of my community tank fish (platies, mollies) in about 3 months! What is going on
It might be an internal parasite that the red wag dragged in, I didn't quarantine her. I just noticed that her poop looked a lot skinnier than normal when she had that bump thing, so maybe that poop is actually worms? I'll post a picture of this later.

I have a platy with the exact same thing. I noticed it when I looked at her this morning. She'd been acting really weird. Hanging out in the tank on her head. I read somewhere that it could be constipation and to feed them peas cut up tiny so I did and then she seemed fine, but this morning upside down again and spinning with the "prolapsed" issue. I'm guessing I'll be getting home to a dead fish...
