fungus

i have been on holiday recently and suffered a nitrate spike while away. I ended up losing a guppy to dropsy because of it. But i thought i had everything back under control. Now today one of buenos aires tetras looks like she has fungus. On her top lip is a very small white growth. It looks like she has a moustache. Is this fungus or mouth fungus is there a difference. She has been moved to my hospital tank and is on a course on medicine. Im so ticked off. Im never goin on holiday ever again. Any advice anyone.

Do you notice any other symptoms, such as erratic behavior, flashing (rubbing against objects/substrate), or bacterial buildup on the glass?

If so, read this thread.

thanks for that but no i have not seen any of those symptoms and i have been watching my tank most the night. She is swimming and eating as normal. It is not thread like. And no stuff on the glass. I believe it is fungus.

Is it a solid growth or is it fuzzy cloud like "growth"?

How long have you had the tetras?

Fungal infections are less common than you would think, kind of like fungal infections are less common in humans.

It is probably a bacterial infection and could be from having an open wound. It could've swam into something, got in a fight, etc.

i have had her about 6 or 8 months. I brought the tetras in 2 groups and not sure which group she from. It is more solid than fuzzy. Its looks a bit like she has a fat lip. They are very boisterous group. They love chasing each other. But she is the biggest of the 8 and seems to be the leader.

Some fungal problems can start out like that, but a picture would help ID if that's the problem or not.
