how long should i leave the carbon in when removing meds?

as long as iv'e had my tank i havn't had to dose it yet. tomorow is my last day dosing with maracyn then i was going to do a 50% water change and add in some carbon to my filter. questions are.....how long should i expect it to take for the carbon to remove the meds and can i leave this new carbon in my filter box? i usually keep a carbon bag in the filter...

CWC and Dino, who are among the most knowledgeable people I know with regards to the technicalities of fishkeeping, have said that it's pretty quick, within an hour or so. When I had to dose a tank, I left the carbon in for two hours and then switched it out.
The good news is that Maracyn is pretty mild, so if you miss a bit, it isn't the end of the world.

Yep, in 2-3 hours, FRESH UNUSED carbon will remove most meds.
A 50% waterchange at the same time, would not hurt, either.
