Betta with persistant popeye

My betta has got popeye, and I used Fungus Clear to try to treat it. Although he is acting alot healthier than he was, his eye is still huge. It looks painful. Should I try other remedies? Is he in pain, and if so should I put him out of his misery, and if so what is the most humane way to put a fish down? Will it just go away of it's own accord with time? Will he lose his eye, and if so, will he be able to function without it? That's alot of questions, but I don't want to lose Floyd if there's a way to save him. I just don't want him to be in pain.

I've seen many fish function without an eye. my old eclipse catfish was nicknamed cyclops for that reason. Anyways, daily water changes accompanied with supporting measures such as garlic guard will help this problem go away, as popeye is a result of degrading water quality.

How big of a tank is he in? What are the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate PPM readings? What's the temp set at?
Sorry for the questions, but to get an idea of why he's got popeye, we need a little more info.
Welcome to Fishlore and I hope we can help.

Welcome to Fishlore.

Maracyn-Two or Triple Sulfa would be what I'd try. We had a betta with popeye and triple sulfa cleared it out, his eye is fine now.

Well, right now I've got him in a 1/2 gallon fish bowl. I know, it's horrible. But I am a poor starving college student and haven't scraped up the funds to get him a larger tank just yet. When my green spotted puffers get larger I'm planning on moving them to a 55-75 gallon tank and converting my 20 gallon into freshwater and put the betta in there, with a few other tankmates.
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
Ammonia-0
But he was in worse conditions before. I'm changing a little of the water pretty much every day now.

yeah, that 20 gallon will do him some good. Just keep the faith, keep up with the water changes, and say so long to popeye.

Hi, Unfortunately, with your betta being in such a small unheated and unfiltered bowl, he's going to be prone to problems.

Keep your eye on Craig's List and Freecycle.org. You'd be surprised at the deals you can get.

Then again, Lucy has a fortunate tendency to come up with ideas that are crazy enough to work

I'm just glad he went as long as he did without problems. I've had him for over a year.
