Tonight i noticed that my cory was just kind of laying around for a long time...which he never does. I noticed that parts of his fins are missing and there is kind of some white goo stuff on the fins, not a lot though. Is this fin rot or something else? what should I do? help, please!

It could be finrot. Do you have any fish in the tank that could have nipped at his fins?

all I have in the tank with him are cherry barbs and a snail... the cherry barbs dont do much since the other male died . im planning on getting 3 more so I can have a little school. But he just started showing signs today so I dont know whats up

It probably is bacterial fin rot. My platy has the same darn thing. Parts of his tail fin are missing as well and ripped. His fins are clamped too and he has some white spots on they areas of the fins where they're ripped. I treated him for four days in a quarantine for ICH and fin rot but it didnt do much his fins arent really healing. I've heard malachite green is good for treating that kind of fin rot. How is your fish doing now? any luck?

It sounds like fin rot to me. I suggest quarantining him immediately in any case.

I use MelaFix for fin rot and have had lots of success. (Note: never use it on labyrinth fish... others are fine.)

I bought some stuff at Wal-mart today to treat ich and fin rot and added some of that today...He's doing alright. his fins are still flowly rotting away it seems like, kinda sad...I really dont know what I'm gunna do with him

I'll try to get a pic up tonight, It wont be very clear becuase I have to use my vid camera to take pics and it sucks at that. If I do that I might as well put of pics of all my fish!

well ya!!!!!!!!!!!!! we would love to see them...and I have this totally amazing video camera that takes hours and hours of vids, as well as has its own seperate hard drive for pics, and do you think I can take a clear picture with that darn thing? heck no!!! LOL not sure why because its great for vids...so maybe u can get us a vid also

If you can find garlic guard, fish protector and vita-chem.. those 3 would also help in treating him. It could be fungus, but I'd have to see a pic to do more than guess.

Yeah, Im really sorry to hear about your fish the one i mentioned that had the fin rot w/ the white dots on the fin that i treated for ich and fin rot is better and trust me I thought i was going to lose him because for a while it looked like his fins were rotting away. I would definately recommend quarantining him and raising the temp to 82 degrees and treat him with the medicine. I used fungus cure and super ick cure, both by the same brand, API. So far i find these products effective. I wish you luck and i hope your fish is okay! and i agree Id love to see a pic of your fishies!
