I can't tell

I don't really know if this is really a disease, but I think it is. My angelfish seem to have become very lethargic. The female stays in a corner with her fins compressed. The male is more active and stays close to the female, but when he strays away he darts back to her. They are not eating like they used to, and the male sometimes stays close to floor and pases back and forth like he is fertilizing eggs but there are none. The only thing that has changed is we got some plants and new fish. The fish do not harm the angels at all (They're guppies).

What are your water readings?

It's possible that the new fish (What kind?) were sick when you brought them home.

The parameters are correct and all other fish are perfectly healthy.

I cannot tell you that right now, but I had the water tested five days ago and the parameters were fine.

It sounds like Internal Parasites. Our male angel acted like that once and we did Parasite Clear to get him cleared. I'd try that and when they'll eat - thawed, frozen hikari bloodworms would be best.

have you checked your water temperature? we found all our tanks have been off the charts this summer and have had to cool them. best way is to freeze some water bottles then float them in the tank.

Angelfish are very sensitive and are often the first to show the effects of any poor water quality, ammonia, nitrites etc.

The mention of red fins makes me think something is wrong with the water.

How often do you do water changes, and how much each time?

Hi FishKing,
I hope your fish are feeling better.
What size tank do you have and how many fish?
It would be helpful to the members to know exactly what your readings are.
It's also recommended to change your water weekly, especially since you added more fish, the bacteria needs time to catch up with the increased bio load.

Good luck, I hope your fish gets better, angels are so pretty.

I noticed something about the male. He is staying at the top of the aquarium, so is the female. When he is at the top of the aquarium the drift takes him backward than he jerks back forward. Other than that I think I have found the problem. The fish are staying at the top of the water and their fins are alot more red so this may indicate ammonia. I am going to do a little water change then see the outcome, but I do have one question. Does brain or any other organ damage caused by ammonia permanent or temporary

If you are going to keep fish, you should invest in a water test kit.

I found out what was causing the problems. It is a disease called septicemia. It presents ammonia like symptoms and more. It is a common and very deadly disease in angelfish. I also know how this disease became present in the aquarium. A few days ago I had bought an angelfish from petco that had died within two days and definitely had this disease. After it died it may have transmitted the disease to the angel pair. Unfortunately my angelfish pair of five years have died. Then I ended up buying two more angelfish from petco that died from the same disease. Petco has the worst condition fish on earth, I will never buy another fish from them. I hate Petco!!!
