Help Sick Betta!!!

i have had this male betta for a year now and everything has been great. of all my bettas he appeared to be the strongest when it came to fighting against any sort of illness. until about 4 days ago i woke up to see him pine-coneing. i figured dropsy so ive been treating him for the last four days with Mardel's Maracyn-two. i looked at him just a few mintutes ago and noticed that on one side the swelling and pine-coneing has gone away but the other side hasnt changed other than developing a red and yellow pus looking sore..... help?!? what do i do?

Sounds like it could be a secondary bacterial infection of some kind..usually when a fish gets some type of illness their imune system is compromised making it easier for other bacteria to enter and infect..or it could be a tumor of some kind...try to treat with medication cuz the open wound he has now is open to even more infection

I am sorry to say but dropsy at the pine coning stage is usually fatal. I just lost a betta & a male keyhole cichlid to dropsy. Dropsy is a symptom of whatever may been wrong to begin. I am so sorry...clean water & meds may help. From my experience the pine coning happens b/c the swim bladder blocks & the fish expands until it pine cones. The last stage of the bladder shutting down.

I don't know if anyone else has gotten a fish to come back from this point or not.

Hmm.. it sounds like the dropsy most likely was caused by bacterial infection and you would either want to start treating with maracyn also or run carbon to clear the maracyn-two, do a 50% water change and start triple sulfa.

Also: Fish Protector, Garlic Guard, Vita-Chem and even Rid-Fungus daily if you have them. This would cover all the bases and give him the best chance to pull through.

UPDATE!!!... a very late one!

he is still alive and kicking... and the one side of his body is no longer as it was. the swelling went away and all i did was a water change to solve it all.

-----> the medication didnt seem to be working so i decided to do a water change and add new carbon to the filter and he appeared to become healthy almost right away! its crazy!
