Levamisole hydrochloride

Ok so once again Camallanus (Nematode internal parasite which appears as a red string coming out of the fishes anus) has shown itself in my fish...From what the guys at the LFS told me it has a long life cycle which is why it keeps coming back..So what I have been told is that the best thing to use is Levamisole hydrochloride which is actually used as a pig dewormer but it has been used on fish for years. What I need to figure out is what is a safe dosage to use for my 55 gal tank?...I have seen the dosage in Liters but..I hate doing conversons since they confuse me...everywhere that sells them sells it for livestock so they don't really say proper dosage for fish...any help would be apreciated..thanks guys.

I had camullanus worms in my guppys ..I used jungle labs anti parisite food It has levamiosole in it and so far so good... I saved the male that showed worms and never saw a worm in the other fish. It has been about 3 months or so since I first noticed he had then and quarantined him immediately. I treated the tank according to directions and treated the male much more aggressively as the worms did not seem to go away right away. You are supossed to feed the meds 3 days a week then go off it for 4 days and repeat for a month...that is what I did to the main tank and the male I fed him steady med food for over a month with no ill effects..qteed him for another month with no signes of worms and he is very happily back in the main tank with his ladies...hope this helps...good luck.

I tried that food and it didn't do anything for my fish..even when I wasn't feeding them anything else they were not even trying to touch the stuff and when they finally did..the worms persisted...The only thing that helped in the end was clout...

I had to crush it down to a fine powder as my fish were small....and the fish didn't much like it ...but for me it worked...sorry it didn't work for you. I couldn't get hold of anything else so I tried it. Even my newborn fry did good on it and made it threw. Hope you find the info you are looking for as that was my one shot..lol....good luck

Hi lalynya, I can't help with the parasites, but here is a great conversion calculator:

That's perfect...I actually found something which gave me the dosing

Add 1.5 milliliter per 7.5 liter of 7.5% Levacide (levamisole hydrochloride) to each tanks to be treated.
Mix the drug in a liter of water before pouring over the tank surface. If you obtain another strength of
the drug (e.g. 1.5%, 3%) then just adjust dosage as required. For 1.5% add 1 ml in 1.5l of tank water.

so hopefully I can figure this out.
