Ick......Again!!!!!

I can't believe this! I have ick again! The first time I had it I lost about 10 fish!I don't want to go through that again. I already lost my puffer, and 1 giant danio (dropsy).I just noticed ich before I was about to go to bed.I turned the temp up and used quick cure from the first ich attack.I injured my back and was down for the count for about a month I wasn't able to take care of the tank like I normally take care of it.My husband just enjoys the tank so he didn't know what to do.now I'm paying for it.I will do a water change tomorrow with hubbys help,I'm not 100% yet.If anyone has advice I'm open.

Thanks!

Hope your back is alright. Just do a 50% - 75% water change, raise the temperature of the water, add salt, add any Ich medication treatment that you have and just see how things goes. Constantly check the water parameter and do water change if needed. Get well soon and good luck in treating your fishes. Keep us updated.

Also, how long did you keep the temperature up when you had ich the first time? With ich you need to keep the temperature fairly high for at least 14 days to really get rid of it. If you could also give us an idea of your tank stock, how widely spread the ich is and what your water quality is we might be able to help you better.

I hope your back is better too!

Ich update

After taking quick action against what I call "fish cancer" I can happilly say that I am pleased with the results that I'm seeing!I will be doing a water change today. I will continue to keep the temp up, giving them their meds, and keeping the light off.Hopefully we will have a full recovery.I was able to catch it at the early stage and now I know just what to do!

Thanks for the suggestions!

55gallon freshwater

2Golden gouramis
2Flame gouramis

The temperature has to be OVER 82 for two weeks, I didn't read how high you have it, but so it works keep it at 83.....

Bala sharks grow too large for a 55, it may help the health of this tank to look at moving them up into a larger tank. Any stress on a tank like this can add to problems. It sounds like you have a really cool group of fish, hope they (and YOU) get to feeling better.....

For ich, the main treatment is the warmer water for 2 weeks, stopping the 3-stage lifecycle of the ich parasite. Combined with daily water changes and substrate cleaning at least once a week, you have a treatment plan that is easy on the systems of the fish, particularly scaleless or young fish.

Ich-Attack is the one thing I like to add when treating for Ich. It's an organic, herbal liquid and safe even for fry. It helps them feel better but the warm water for 2 weeks is still needed.
