danio's keep dieing one by one

So I have been busy and haven't been able to come on much but I've found some time now and I have a problem with my danios. If anybody remembers I had bought 2 zebra danios 2red zebra danios and 2 yellow zebra danios at christmas time. Well starting late April they have begun to die off and I am left with two currently, one yellow one red. What happens is one begins to not eat, then just swims in the back corner away from the school, and then dies. No signs of distress besides turning thin from not eating. There is nothing on them or internal signs that show on the outside. I did a water change today like I always do and my regular zebra danio is looking completely healthy to me and has been eating, but shortly after I put the gravel vac in the tank he is dead in my amazon sword for no apparent reason. I don't know what is wrong since it only is affecting my danios. My rasboras are fine and I've even seen more amano shrimp than I ever have before. Any help would be appreciated. No I don't have any test levels yet for my tank as I haven't tested them yet. Thought I would have thought if my levels were poor my more sensitive fish otos or shrimp would show it rather than hardy danios.

thanks

Austin

sorry for the loss of your danios but we always start with water parimeters first to elimate that aspect...testing will answer or give you other solutions hope they get better sooon!

Thanks, I do not like losing fish and really like my danios. Yes I know about testing, I just don't test very often simply because I do not change much in my tank and it has a constant scedule. However for things like what is happening now and when I do change something I do test and I have gotten around to it after my conference track meet today. The stats are normal for my tank NH4=0 NO4=20 NO3=0 I can not remember a time since I bought the test kit when my tank has not had those stats since I have encoutered minimal problems so far in almost 3 years.

Sometimes hardier fish are more susceptible to something like high nitrates. It's very unusual to have 0 for nitrates - is this a liquid test kit that's less than 1 year old?

Do they have white/clear/stringy poop? This sounds like internal parasites.

Hi Automachine..
Sorry to hear about your Danios. Ive had the same problem with my rainbows just the way you described. I did some research and came to the conclusion that it was fish TB. You can google it and see if it is the same for your fish.
There doesnt seem to be much that you can do for them. They waste away and get real skinny, then die. Only one of my rainbows that I QTed and used parasite cure seemed to stay alive. It is back in the main tank, still skinny and kind of mishapen, but it has lived with this condition for months now.
It seems that the fish TB effects some fish and the others are fine. My angel fish and Discus, cardinal tetras and Bolivian rams are all fine. Just when the TB hits, it seems to hit one species only.
Danios are very kewl little fish, and I also had zebra's that I fell in love with. Maybe Quarantining the other sick fish may help you?

Yea sorry dave, I meant NO3 and NO2, got mixed up with SO4 and SO3 from chemistry. The nitrates are 20 and the kit is the normal liquid pharmaeuticals or whatever it is. Poop is normal.

Kate so far my other danios are fine, so I hope if it was TB it has finished taking it's toll. It's been a week now and they aren't showing any signs of problems.

thanks for the help, i'll check into TB

Hmm.. isn't there a tetra disease that's mainly neons? I wonder if that could have been the culprit? Anyhow, I'm glad the remaining danios are good and hopefully it will stay that way.
