2 disease attack my fishes

Hi,

I am not sure what's attacking the fishes. Pls kindly advise.

(1) Dwarf Gourami:

There's tiny white stuff on mouth; a small part of the scale is buldging; hole in scale.

(2) Molly:

She swarm with her belly up a few times; she has some slimy & stringy stuff on her. I tried removing them but they came back.

I have isolated them; used salt and methylene blue.

Thanks.

Hi Shawnie,

I have been trying to take pictures of them but the pics turned out all blurry. I am still trying.

Thanks for responding so quickly. Appreciate it.

im thinking it could be ich and maybe a parasite..but gotta be sure before you can give things to make better..always a good thing to do is water changes treated with prime if nothing else until its figured out what they have...sorry your fish are sickie

A good treatment for ich is one of the oldest medications for fish, raising the temp of the tank (above 80) and aquarium salt. Its the only time I would think of using aquarium salt on any of the freshwater fish.

The ulcer looks a lot like the one that one of my cichlids had when it had malawi bloat. I isolated it and treated it w/ marycin and melafix. Now I am lost on the molly. I don't think ich is it, I am guessing fungus but not sure?

That looks like body fungus on the molly and I'd find a good anti-fungal med for her. Garlic supplements and liquid vitamins could help both fish too.

we just got over a small fungal prob in the large peacock tank, I think its where the "king of the tank" kicked everyone elses butts and they had wounds...
Anyways... I used a combo of melafix and pimafix and they have healed up after 5 days. I also took out all the carbon out of the filter (if you use carbon u need to remove it when adding meds it will filter your meds out of your tank) The fish have 2 more days of the mel/pimafix then I am going to do a good 50 percent waterchange, gravel vaccum, and service all the filters plus put carbon back in the penguin biowheel...

But that combo of meds really made a difference fast, not to mention though I think I caught the fungus early on, they barly had any "fluff" on their face. And I also backed it up w/ the melafix to heal any wounds they also had.

Velvet appears similar to ich, but with yellow/gold spots.

Hi,

Molly's fin is falling off her bit by bit.

Thanks for the help.

I will treat them with medication to combat fungus.

I have also change 50% water from the main tank and isolate the sick fishes to treat them.

Hi,

The aquarium shop is selling antibiotic leaves that are just left in the tank to treat the fishes.

Has anyone seen, heard, know of or tried it before?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong: Zeebo you should not use Melafix and Pimafix to medicate a gourami. It is a labyrinth fish and those meds would screw up his breathing.

I think they are ok for the molly.

I am sure someone has mentioned those leaves on the forum in the past, hopefully someone will remember or know about them.

Good luck witht the two of them.

Yea, the Melafix & Pimafix are damaging to the air labyrinth organ in gouramis.
