Yes it true, HITH is bad.
I have a mag at home that has a artical on HITH, and explains it well.
I will add to this post tonight, but for now we have this for you,

HITH (hole in the head) is usually caused in Oscars by a lack of the vitamin B complex. That situation usually arises when people feed only goldfish feeders to their Oscars. (In other words: Goldfish lack the vitamin B complex.) Responsible fishkeepers say that a variety of foods are best for most fish to ensure that a complete range of vitamins and minerals are achieved in the diet.

Im glad to hear that nutrition plays a key role in the cause of it, I have also heard that water condtions also can cause them to be prone to it. (however if you care for your fish you are going to feed them the right food and keep their water clean)

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...40&c=3578+4620 is a med to treat HITH/LLD. If that's not available there, look for something with the metronidazole active ingredient. It's a med to keep on hand if you have oscars, but hopefully one that you'll never have to use.

I would also keep vitachem on hand. It is useful while trying to heal HITH. If you go to oscarfishlover.com they have a very informative article on this disease.
