ughh Plecostomus with parasite? Help plz

Afternoon all, I have yet another question this time concerning my sucky I read that the long po like thing was a parasite, hopefully that is true because I purchased the Jungle Parasite Clear tablets. I added to the water , desolved the tablets first per instructions and removed my filters.

Now my questions are :
How long do I leave the filters out?
How long before I do a 25% water change? Next day? week? I don't want to upset the med's.
The instructions say repeat up to two times in 48 hours. Does it take more than one time to treat this eeky thing?

Thanks for all your help.

Stressed out again !

I have had very good luck using parasite clear, so you picked a good medication. Don't remove your filters!!! Just remove the carbon from the filter. Good water quality is very important especially for a sick fish. The directions say to repeat after 48 hours. 48 hours after the second dose you can do a water change. Usually after doing the two doses the parasite will clear up nicely.

GOOD NEWS! Plecos are HUGE waste producers! Have you heard this before, well it is a nice way of saying, yes they will clean your tank of algae, and they have healthy appetites, but they don't process this all in a way that is neat and tidy. It is messy, and is gross. This pleco looks to me to be doing what plecos do. If you don't want all this in your tank, my suggestion would be to get several bristlenose plecos. They are smaller, but also produce a lot less waste, and eat algae like crazy.

ONE common pleco in a 125 gallon tank will grow to 18" and you can expect a string of poo as long as the tank! 2 bristlenose plecoes will eat just as much algae, only grow to 5" each and you won't see the mess. It helps to move this along if you have driftwood in the tank. Like fiber for us, they often eat wood to keep things moving.......

The string of waste hanging from a fish is "usually" a sign of a parasite if it is white, and just won't drop off. If it is obviously full of food, it just means the fish is a pig, and over eating. You can try cutting the food, they don't HAVE to be fed all they want!

Also try fasting your tank one day a week. Good Luck!

OK thanks as long as he isnt sick but it seems to hang on forever so I was concerned. I assume if he is OK then the parasite tablets wont hurt him.

Like I said earlier I know not a thing about any water pets, slowly but surely I am learning.

Thanks again,

Feeling better.

Oh BTW what if my charcoal is in the filter? How do I take one out without taking out the other?

Your charcoal is in the sort of fuzzy mesh bag thing. Its the black stuff inside of it. You should be able to take that out by and leave the sponge still intact.

Yea, he looks alright to me and they really do poop amazing amounts! Even more than live bearers. I'd definitely hold off on meds unless he started having white poop all the time.
