GOOD NEWS! Plecos are HUGE waste producers! Have you heard this before, well it is a nice way of saying, yes they will clean your tank of algae, and they have healthy appetites, but they don't process this all in a way that is neat and tidy. It is messy, and is gross. This pleco looks to me to be doing what plecos do. If you don't want all this in your tank, my suggestion would be to get several bristlenose plecos. They are smaller, but also produce a lot less waste, and eat algae like crazy.
ONE common pleco in a 125 gallon tank will grow to 18" and you can expect a string of poo as long as the tank! 2 bristlenose plecoes will eat just as much algae, only grow to 5" each and you won't see the mess. It helps to move this along if you have driftwood in the tank. Like fiber for us, they often eat wood to keep things moving.......
The string of waste hanging from a fish is "usually" a sign of a parasite if it is white, and just won't drop off. If it is obviously full of food, it just means the fish is a pig, and over eating. You can try cutting the food, they don't HAVE to be fed all they want!
Also try fasting your tank one day a week. Good Luck!
