White Spots=Not Cool!

NOO! I have been noticing in the past week, both of my kissing gourami's have been getting white spots on them, ALL OVER!! It isnt like a fungus but more of little white spots! I always clean my tank and my filters are fine, but i had recently purchased a new fish so maybe thats where it came from. now i have the gourami's in a ten gallon and the other fish back to the neibhor. please tell what is wrong and what kind of meds i can give them. Thanks Alot!

Sounds like ich.
I would suggest raising the temperature in the tank to 83 degrees. This interrupts the parasites' ability to reproduce.
There are also ich cures, but I prefer natural remedies if they are available. Good nutrition and vita-chem can help.

Hi Plecomaniac,
Welcome to FishLore.
Does it look like bits of salt? Can you post a picture of it?

Also, your tank isn't big enough for 2 Kissing Gourami. They grow to be 12" each. The rule of thumb is 1" of adult fish to 1 gallon of water.

I see your tank is new, please read about the Nitrogen Cycle:
http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

Are you testing your water? If so, with what and what are the readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. The API master kit is recommended over strips. It's much more reliable.
With such a new tank with fish in it, you have to do daily water changes to keep the ammonia levels down.

Sorry for all the questions, but we can better help you by knowing the answers.

Good luck.

I'd raise the temp like SDS recommended and do 25% daily water changes. No meds are needed, but if you want to treat them with something, I'd recommend Ich-Attack. It's a non-harsh herbal organic treatment. Most other ich treatments have malachite green (aka victoria green) in them, which is something I'd NEVER use.

just wondering, why would you not use malachite green?I just discovered ich in my tank and I was told to use quick cure which has malachite green in it.

Ich actually doesn't need meds to treat. Malachite Green is very harsh on fish and can cause way more harm than good. Check the wikipedia entry on it:
