sick fish

I had two dwarf gouramis. but one died of dropsy about two weeks ago. ammonia is 0, nitrites are 0, and my nitriates were 10 last night but I did a 20% water change. and now my other gourami is listliss on the floor. the first gourami had a ball towards the gill area and this one has it towards the tail. is it the same thing or could it be like a bladder infection? I've read that gouramis are prone to these two diseases. Please let me know if what it could be and what I can do about it. Thanks!

Not sure what it is, but I've seen a few members post pictures of guoramis with knots under their skin, so this does seem common.
Keep the water quality top-notch, and if you can get your hands on vita-chem, try dosing the tank and the food with it.

My Gourami did that! then he pineconed, got dropsy and died

I would medicate now, I waited because I wasnt sure and I think that I might have been able to save him.

Dropsy has 3 main causes.. parasites, infection and tumors so you want to go after the root cause. Parasites would call for clout or parasite clear. You could try maracyn-two or triple sulfa, maybe even kanaplex (if you think he's got no other option) for fighting infection.

Super clean water, vita-chem, garlic guard and fish protector daily could help out a good bit.

Gouramis are also very prone to both parasites and tumors....this is something certain breeders have problems with, it often times doesn't show up until you have had them awhile....I would routinely treat any gouramis you get with parasite meds.

If it has progressed though to dropsy, it would indicate a bacterial infection, possibly caused by the above.

It would be really great to find a source for these fish that were reliably healthy. Good Luck
