Mollies swimming up and down the side of glass

Hi,
I'm into my 3rd week of cycling a 90 gallon tank with 7 fish in it. I have been doing some water changes due to the amonia being high. I know that's part of the cycle but I'm also trying to keep my fish safe. Anyway...the 2 Mollies have been swimming up and down the side of the glass constantly since I put them in the tank 2 weeks ago. Any ideas?

It sounds like your fish are stressed due to the fact that you have them in a tank that is not cycled. Its so much easier to cycle a tank without fish then you do not have to worry about the toxins that are making your fish sick. What are your water test readings? And how high is that ammonia reading? You will have to do water changes every day til your tank is cycled, what has your water change routine been and how often?. And with a 90 gal tank, that is a lot of water changes. Can you let us know what your nitrite and nitrate readings are along with the Ammonia readings?
Sorry you are having so much problems with your fish, hope that with some information here, we may be able to help you save some of your fish before its too late.

Hi Cheryl
after looking over your other posts, I see that there have been suggestions and responses to your post about this issue with your uncycled tank. Susitna flower linked for you some information on the nitrogen cycle for you to check out. Hopefully you have read this, as I see no posts from you since you asked for that advice.
As a member here for quite awhile, and seeing that you already have an established tank, Im surprised that you decided to cycle that 90g with fish, after many threads about the dangers to your fish's health regarding cycling a tank with fish. As was mentioned in another post, at the risk of repeating the advice again, Im going to suggest to you, that you take some of the filter media, even if you have to cut a piece out of that filter media from the 29g tank and add it to the filter of your 90g. Along with a sack of gravel from your established tank you may be able to help speed up the nitrogen cycle. This would, along with daily water changes can help your fish and help your tank to cycle.
good luck with that.

If you want to buy some, The Fish Den over near 44th & Sheridan has Bio-Spira.

What are the current readings and water temp? How often do you do the water changes? Are you using Prime for the water conditioner? Do you have aeration in the tank? Are the other fish all acting normal?

Hi All,
Yes I have a 29 gallon established tank still running. I cycled that tank with fish and all went well. I did have a few issues with a few fish later in that tank but all of them are and have been fine for quite awhile now.
Cycling with fish was instructed to me by the owner of our local fish/aquarium store. Now I am hearing from so many that its better without fish.... I would have perfered to do it without.
I have been doing water changes (around 25%) every day for the past week.
The amonia is coming down finally, but still high at 1.0 and nitites are still between 0 and .25. All the fish are fine and eating and swimming etc. but the 2 mollies are going up and down the glass constantly (except to eat)
I am an animal and fish lover and care greatly about their health. I guess I am still learning alot. It has been almost 2 years since I cycled my 29 gallon and forgot some things. My 29 galloni is an Eclipse and the tank set up is all together different than my new 90 gallon. I very much appreciate all the help you all are giving me. Thank you.

Hi, it's me again. I forgot to answer a few of your questions....
Yes I do have a airstone in the tank which is working great. I also have a UV Sterilizer hooked up and running in it too. Yes I do use prime with every water change and used the correct amount at set up. Possibly even more (by mistake) than needed but the owner of the fish store said it would be ok and wouldnt hurt the fish. Oddly enough the nitrates are at 0.
