Help! Gouramis are sick and acting strange!?

My Male Gourami (from the symptoms i can see) has mucus hyperproduction. I asked a question about it earlier. But i was just looking at the female and she is hanging around at the top of the tank (in between filter tube and heater) and twitching every three-four seconds. She has bee fine up until today. Her whole body convulses. It is so strange. Does anybody know what's up? She is a little fatter than usual, but i definitely have not been overfeeding.

well how long has your tank been set up? And what are your water parameters?

Tank has been set up for 6 months roughly. pH is neutral. I had my nitrate nested a few weeks ago and it was fine- i only have a pH test kit at home. Temp is 28 degrees.

you should reallyinvest on a test kit. But other than that when was your last water change?

Unfortunately she died. I went away for the weekend and got a friend to feed the fish and the friend found her at the bottom of the tank wrapped in weed. It was kind of mysterious. She got incredibly fat towards the end, just behind the gills at the front of the body, but she wasn't losing colour at all. Do you have any ideas what it could have been? Thanks for the replies!

sorry for the loss of your fish could have been a parasite...or even ammonia or nitrites mite be high..you should invest in a test kit that has all the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, ph etc in it...alot of us use the api liquid master test kit...hard to tell what it deffinately was without all the water perimeters tested...

We're sorry you lost her, it sounds like she may have developed dropsy or had constipation.
