Rid-fungus

Hello,
It has been 3 days of treatment on Rid-fungus and I do not see any change with the sick fish, he is still laying on the bottom of the tank with the fungus on him. He is not eating either.
Should I have seen a change yet?
Thanks,
Heidi

Are you sure it's fungus? Did you do a water change prior to treating the tank?

I am pretty sure it is a fungus.
And yes I did do a water change prior to the treatment.
The guppy has white cottony stuff on one side of his body and is laying on the bottom of the tank.
Thanks

Oh no, I am getting concerned with my guy also.
I am considering moving him to another tank and treating him with something else.
I was just getting another tank ready to put him in, not sure if this is a good idea, but I have to do something. He is not eating, which really concerns me!
I hope someone that knows more than I, replies to this soon.

Depending on how strong the fungal infection is, it can take a little time to see changes.

I'm wondering - is there any chance that it's not a fungal infection, but columnaris instead? It appears like a patch or patches of fuzzy white hair and is actually an internal bacterial infection that you would treat with Triple Sulfa.. but you'd really need a seperate tank to treat him in with that.

My guy is looking better today, he is trying to eat, at least. His fins are not looking good though.
Should I move him to another tank and use Melafix? I used that on my male betta and it worked great.
Thanks again,
Heidi

I'd never use melafix on a Betta, I'm glad yours made it.. but it is good with livebearers. I could be wrong, but as far as treating fungus goes I think Rid-Fungus is stronger than Melafix.

I'm so upset, looks like the entire tank is in different stages of sickness. It's a 140 G tank...hospital is only 10 G. Nothing seems to work. 3rd day on meds. SHould I change the water even though treating the water? Ammonia reads today @ 1.0

It may be necessary to do so, you don't want them exposed to toxic levels of ammonia, although the prime does help with that some.

Keep in mind that prime will only last about a day then the levels will spike again. Also if you use prime make sure to add extra aeration as it depletes the O2 levels. I would just do a 50% water change and add the meds again. Also, did you remove the carbon filters if you are using them?
