Oscar fish bitten very sick

HI,

I have a white albino oscar that got bitten by a fellow oscar and caused enough damage by walking cat fish. I have isolated him to a separate tank. Added Live O disease medicine as prescribed and added some salt into the tank to help him heal. But the wounds are very deep and he is not able to swim at all he is floating on the side and most of the time remains near the top of the tank. I am worried he might die. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, could you tell me how many gallons your tank is, and how big your oscars are? They need a lot of room once they are older otherwise they can become very aggressive. With others in the tank too, it may not be a good idea to put the wounded one back in once he has healed.

To stop the wound getting infected, I've heard that you can dab it with 'Mercurochrome' or 'Betadine' which you can usually buy in pharmacies. If your oscar is too small to be able to avoid eyes / gills, try adding methylene blue to the water, and keep the salt. This should help heal the wound and stop it from getting infected, but until he's better, make sure you keep a close eye on him, in case any infection does set in.

Make sure you keep us posted - and I really hope he does get better.

Welcome to Fishlore. I hope your oscar makes it through.

You might look for a gel medicine like this:

You could apply that to his wound and give him more chance to get better.
