Welcome to Fishlore.

Black is normally an indication that the fish has suffered a chemical burn, and this burn is now healing. This is sometimes called "melanophore migration." If you see black, check your water and perform water changes to correct problems.

If you can get Prime to use for water conditioner and do daily partial water changes, that will help. Also Vita-Chem and Fish Protector for healing. As soon as possible, I'd recommend a larger tank as well.

HI, WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

There are several related articles on

http://parrotcichlid.com/

Super good water conditions should be all required to help this fish heal.

Also they stress that a 30 gallon tank is the bare minimum, and should be upgrades quickly to a 50 gallon tank....

Hope this helps.

I have seven parrot of my own that I have had for several years. Normally, the black is just a pigment change that happens when they are juveniles. The black will go away in a few weeks. You really do need to get a larger tank though. I would recommend at least a 30 gallon for one parrot to start. I hope this helps!
