What is wrong? HELP!
My poor baby male bn pleco. His tail looks like someone tore him up. He was in the fry tank with the female bn pleco who is much bigger than he is. Can they hurt each other like that, or is it something else He is breathing heavy and was too easy to catch.
Here are some pixs. Can anyone help me out here? I have him in the sick tank, just did a water changes a few hours ago. Does he need to be treated? What can plecos be treated with. I am all in a panick he looks terrible.

Allie, Poor little baby....you could use Maracyn-Two on him...it is really hard to tell how bad it is, though he seems quite brused...
If there is an internal infection, the Maracyn-two should help, and it is absorbed through the skin. Hope this helps.

tried to look up some things,,,only thing that looks like it that I found was inflamation which is treated (right on sustina) over the counter antibiotics and Maracyn two is great. the description for infamation was reddening on or under skin, sudden abnormal behavior. I'll keep looking for you. Make sure he has good air flow and filtration (no carbon).
--------------------------------------------------------------
internet description:
BACTERIAL INFECTION
Symptoms: Cloudy eyes, open sores (ulcers) on the body or lateral lines, abscesses, rotting or inflammation (reddening) of the skin, fins or internal organs, bulging eyes or rapid breathing are all symptoms of a bacterial disease.
Treatment: Fish with bacterial diseases should be treated in a separate hospital tank. The best medication is a broad spectrum gram negative antibiotic such as nitrofuran or kanamycin sulfate. It is real important that you give the full recommended treatment as well as for the full treatment period to prevent the disease from reoccurring. If you have a ultraviolet light, it should be left on in the main tank to help control the spread of the disease.
P.S. So sorry you both are going through this !

Man I could not get back on the forum yesterday. GRR. It looks like he was burnt. He must have stayed too close to the heater. But I will get some maracyn 2 today while I am out. It looks like it is infected tho. I feel so bad for hi,.

I think it's probably what SF suggested. I've seen our little LFBN albino young and they do like the heater (food), but seem to dart off pretty quick if it goes on so the heater is possible, but seems less likely.
Really clean water, liquid vitamins, fish protector, even garlic boost could help his healing but it looks like it could be necessary to treat him with antibiotics like Maracyn-Two.
Fish Protector enhances the antibiotics effectiveness, so hopefully you can get some of it.

It's sometimes a mystery how they get things. Mickey's got popeye - even though his tank is kept very clean. I think it's a secondary infection from the fin damage he gave himself showing off for Chloe.
I wish you the best of luck with your little guy.

Yep Bn's can really tear each other up sometimes but it's usually the female. Good luck, keep us posted how the little guy is doing.

That was my first instinct about the situation...she IS double his size. They do eat wood, so why not each other too.
Here's some pix of the poor lil' guy today.

The reason I asked is that our males were always so protective of the fry even up until they were a week old that we started lifting the cave with dad and eggs out and into a small tank of their own. He would chase all the others and get torn up and tear others up. Even though mom would lay her eggs and go on her merry way he would still jump out and attack her if she swam by.
maybe yours perceived a threat to the fry and took on more than he could handle.

Hi Allie!! Sorry I missed this post. I'm not used to the new look yet...
Glad to know he's getting better now.. I just want to know if these 2 (smaller male and bigger female) are on the same batch you got from me. I'm trying to figure out if they are, the male should have much longer bristles by now if it's really a male.

Yup they are both yours. My luck it's probably a female with horns. Good thing we're getting more from you eh?
