Hole in the Head?

Hey, looking for help for my platys. I have 8 platys (2 male 6 female) approx. 20 fry(soon to have their own home with the boys) in my 32 gallon. Water is good.. amm.: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate:5-10 pH: 7.8 (a lil high as I recently added a lil salt)temp 77 degrees. Oversized HOB filter. Never have used carbon in the tank. Unfortunately I recently lost one male to 'dropsy' about a week ago and the only syptom I noticed prior was a small red/translucent streak on his side. Possible internal parasite or bacterial infection?

Just noticed today that two females have growing white spots on their heads. I have treated ich and colmunaris before and it's neither. Was thinking it could be 'Hole in the head'? Their appetites are fine and behavior is normal. Wondering if someone could point me in the right direction as how to treat them? I would prefer to use the least invasive treatment.

Thank you for your help,
Rhapsody

Welcome!!!

Hole in the head is a from lack of vitimin b uptake in cichlids.
I have neer heard of it in any other family of fish.

If you have access to a mild antibiotic like methyline blue, I would reccommend using it.

Welcome to Fishlore.

Do you have a pic that you could post? Meth. blue and also Melafix would be some good basic general purpose treatments. If you get Meth. blue, be real careful with it - it can dye about anything blue.
