is this finrot????

I can get you a pic shortly of my upside-down catfish (he's sleeping in this awkward position that doesn't let me get a good view of his tail, and he'll be waking up shortly), but pretty much his fins look messed up.

I want to assume it's fin nipping, but I have never seen any of my fish nip at his fins. He is also not stressed (the only times i see him stressed is when another fish wakes him from his sleep), and I see him at night sucking on the glass and he looks fine.

The thing is, though, I don't see any bacterial looking stuff on his fins. please correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't there be noticeable signs of it being finrot, other then the fins being messed up.

I was also wondering if he was getting his fins caught, but the thing is i have not seen the fins change at all. It's like they aren't growing back or aren't doing anything. They look the same with no change whatsoever. (though they are definitely different from when I first got him.. his fins were much bigger.

I'll post pics up in a few.. he hasn't woken up from his sleep yet lazy bum :P

Finrot can look ragged or like pieces have been cut out, depending on if it's fungal or bacterial (or both) in origin. Finrot can occur without any other signs than the fin damage.

oh snap then he does have it. I couldn't get a pic last night but i'll get you one today.

Well, sucky part is it's easter and most stores are closed (the good ones, anyway) so i'll be going to the store tomorrow to get medication.

Try doing a 50% water change today and if you have any slime coat enhancing products, or liquid vitamins to add to the water, that could help a little.

Thanks CO! I was planning to do that and I think i'll do it today.

I'm pretty sure he'll make it through this, as he doesn't look that bad off. It's only seeming to affect his back tail, as his other fins don't look bad.
