Help Ick Attack

My Tanganyica Tank has got its second attack of Ick in 3 months. I cant turn the heat up above 30 degrees centigrade because Tanganica Cichlids cannot cope with these tempatures.

I treated the ick the last time with Ick treatment but it has come back. I really need help !!!! Any suggestions on treatment other experiences ect.

Thanks in advance

I dont want to loose any fish.

Turn the temp up to 82. This will increase the rate of the life of the bacteria and cause it to die very quickly. Leave it at that temperature for at least 1 week. 2-3 weeks is better. Treat with Maracide Concentrate or some other ich/ick medication. Be sure that once the ich is gone to put Carbon into your filter to remove the medication.

Turning off the light can also help. The parasite has a harder time finding a host in the dark and the only way ich can be killed is in its free swimming stage(not when on the fish) The spore on the fish will fall of and "explode" once it reaches the bottom of the tank and release hundreds of tomites which is when the parasites are vulnerable.

Salt is also an option but I have never used it when treating ich and they have been fine.

I suggest temp, meds, dark, and time.

Also do not take anything from the Ich tank and put it in another tank(plants, rocks, fish, ANYTHING!) This can transmit ich to the other tank.

GL,
Cory

The treatment for ick is to bring your tank to 27-28F for 2 weeks, even if the ick looks like it's gone sooner. During the 2 weeks, do 25% water changes every 2 days with the replacement water being as close in temperature as you can make it. Clean the substrate weekly.

No meds are needed and I would avoid ANY meds that have Malachite Green (Victoria Green) in them. We like to use a product called Ich-Attack when treating ich to make the fish more comfortable.
