My 1 black molly i have in my 29 tank keeps getting sick he had ick twice in one month and now he has been sittiing on the bottom not doing very much like he can not swim he looks ballooned up. My other black molly i have in the same tank is doing fine. He did not have ick when the other one had it. I had both mollies in my 10 gallon tank when i was cycling it about a year or so ago. Could this be part of the problem where the fish helped cylce that tank and is just now going to die and that no meds can cure. Funny thing is the other molly is hangiing by his side as well like wanting him to get better. Help would be appreciated.
It sounds like he's a weaker fish than his tankmate, and more prone to disease. I would isolate him if you at all can (do you have a quarantaine tank maybe?) so you can really shock-treat him.
Dropsy is also the first thing I thought about. Unfortunately, if you do notice the scales look raised, then it's almost too late. Unfortunately again, dropsy is a symptom rather than a disease, so it's difficult to treat in a targetted way. I would do some research on the few causes of dropsy (e.g TB), so you can decide which target-treatment to give it (in the Q tank preferably). Don't forget to use activated carbon after treating the tank.
Oooh, and, really stretching it here but is there one chance in a million that your fish is actually a female? Some can be difficult to tell apart, as as you're talking of a swollen belly and hanging around the bottom? Anyway, am sure you'd know if your fish was a female after 1 year, so probably a very dumb suggestion.
I read a book about fish diseases and it said to treat for intestinal worms if your fish was bloated. You could research other symptoms/behaviours associated with internal worms (I think changed eating patterns are a biiig indication, but do research it more as I've never experienced it with my fish first hand).
Does he have any other strange behaviours or physical symptoms (how is his colouring. What about his eyes? Swollen/clear?).
Sorry it's a lot of questions, but I hope it helps planting the right seeds in your mind and that with all our answers, you eventually find what's wrong. I really hope your fish gets better. Best of luck.
I will get a pick up tonight. He has been that way for about 2 to 3 days. I put marceryn 2 in today and hopefully that will cure it. I have also noticed that my swordtails are hanging in the top corner of my tank by my heater. I have introduced one angel fish to my tank yesterday and i do not see any aggression between the to. I dont know if that is why they are hanging at top of tank or not. They are not gasping for air or anything like that. I treated the ich with quick cure got it from petsmart and both times and it cured the ich. Temp of tank is between 80 and 81.
do you have 1 or 2 angelfish in the tank? you might need more aeration in the tank - do the swordtails have any red/purple in the gills or any other physical symptoms? are any of the fish not eating?
I have 1 angelfish in the tank as of now. I have to pumps both in opposites sides of the tank one is a penguin 100 and the other is a 150. I also have a round circular air stone in the gravel between the two pumps. Red or purple gills i did not see any when i looked but i will look again and see and post my findings. The angelfish was eating when i threw food in and the swordtails and mollies did not eat that i saw. I will post pics asap.

did they stop eating after the angelfish was added? they could be stressed by the angelfish? how big is it? pics will be great - refusing food shows stress & hopefully not from illness.
Just fed them and they are all are eating including the sick molly so i guess that is a good sign. Here are some pics of the molly it is the best i can do and a pic of my angel fish.
He's very big, but would you say he's swollen? I don't know your male, so I don't know what's normal for him, but he doesn't have to be swollen from that picture.
Would you be able to get a sharper focus on the scales? I do seem to distinguish the scales, which is not good if you don't normally see his scales easily. Could be the start of dropsy which, again, would need researching to get to the bottom of. Have you always seen his scales that distinctly?
No i have never seen his scales like this until recently. So i would say he is sick but he is eating today so im assuming the meds are kicking in and working. I hope that is because the other little black molly hangs around him like lets play. I feel bad because if he does not make it he is going to be all alone.
it is a good sign that he's eating.. at this point, the best thing to do is keep up with the meds and maybe add liquid vitamins.. hopefully he'll pull through and maybe he's already taken the first step.
Well good news is looks like dropsy is just about gone still a little fat and bloated looking but the scales are not stickinig up anymore. That is a good sign Marcyn 2 is some good stuff. How long should i continue to give him the meds for?

well you can give 2 or at the most 3 courses in a row, i believe. It's kind of a judgement call if you want to do another course when this course is done. On 1 hand, it could further help knock out the problem and on the other hand it could build up a resistance to Marcyn-2. I'd probably do a 2nd course if i had good reason to feel there was still disease present.
