All my fish were doing fine then the water started to get cloudy. Next day there all died. I think it wa because there was a diver and chest in the water that had staples. I went to look at all the stuff in the water and the staples were rusted.

Oh nooooo. I am so sorry, Piranha guy. That's awful. It could well be the metal in the staples, yes. Was it sold to you as aquarium-safe? If so, you could complain to the fish store so it doesn' happen to more people.

I am really sorry about this, Piranha guy. Was there many fish?

No, not really. But two were pregnant. I had 5 1 inch fish in a ten gallon

I certainly feel your pain. I came home to find three of my four fish died in one day. It was horrible. All you can do is hunt for the source, remove it, and start over. I treated my tank for a week for Ick and got my sole surviving fish back into good health before adding new females.

Tommoro i'm getting that chance, not so much of it though.
Sadly I'm return some of my fish (those that i'll be able to part with) for a betta.
This would never have come about if a friend of mine's tank hadn't broken and given me the fish. Well you can imagine how excited i felt at getting free (more) fish!! Too late i saw they were biggish fish (dinos some barbs, tetras) and my fish started to look stressed out. So i put them all in the 8gal and decided that if i'm going to return them to the LFS, i might as well take some of my own so that i know i have some free space , which i'm bgining to learn is very valuable!!

I am so sorry about your fish!
You had guppies, right? Did you like the idea of all those babies? You could try your hand at guppies again , or you could try other livebearers. Do a little research and let us know your ideas.

sounds like an algae bloom... how long was your tank set up, and was it cycled properly?

As for a puffer, they get kinda big, and need brackish water which many other fish can't tolerate...

3 weeks isn't long time, your tank may not have been cycled all the way, which means your fish might have died from ammonia or nitrite poisoning. If you don't know what I'm talking about then read this page:

Do you have a test kit? If so test the water for Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates. If you don't have one, go get one and then post your results.
Most everyone here knows the routine and will help you out once we know what your readings are.

Oh, and don't buy any more fish until you get the water tested or they might die as well...

My grampy tested the water. He said it was fine.
my mom got fish when I wasnt there and got dyed fish. I dont know what type of fish it is pale and has a piranha front. What fish is that?

Dyed fish? Thats horrible! suppose you post a pic for us so we can try to see what fish it is?

sounds like a dyed tetra... you're going to find out most people here hate the idea of dying a fish.
The thing about it is it's supposed to be very bad for a fish. That being the case, the fish would probably be very unhealthy to begin with. I would avoid getting a dyed one again.
As for your grandfather testing the water, have him double check. I'm not saying he did anything wrong, but some test kits can be inaccurate. I still think your tank isn't cycled. 3 weeks isn't usually long enough, and Ammonia or Nitrite poisoning is deadly for most fish.
You can take a water sample to most pet stores to be tested.

A majority of fish put through the torture of dying - DIE. What few survive are indeed unhealthy & prone to sickness as Jim pointed out. If a store carries dyed fish, I'd ask if they know they do and if they plan to continue. I wouldn't support a store that would say 'yes' to either.. maybe losing business would be more motivation to them than treating animals humanely.

They are still doing good. They seem to be fast and active swimmers. They eat fast too!

jim why r u sayin they get kinda big he could have got 3 dwarf puffers for his 10 gallon tank. dwarf puffers are so adorable im in love with mine..they come up to the glass and are like saying feed me feed me and theyre always watching you. o edit: i didnt see you already got some. sry

I just looked up dwarf puffer and I see they don't get as big as I thought... your honor, I'd like to retract my last statement... lol

FYI, I saw some figure 8 puffers at the LFS, and I'm VERY tempted to make my next tank brackish so I can buy some... they are pretty cool.

I've not seen the figure 8 puffers.. i like the dwarfs for their size & ability to live in FW conditions, but brackish isn't too hard to maintain and i know i've seen some SW puffers that are very cool.

When ever the light is of, my 3 white skirt tetras swim around. then when I turn the light on they sink to the bottom and get all skidish.Also when the ligis of, I can feel them and they dont care!
