Clamped Fins

One of my Black Moors is clamping her fins. Dorsal and anal fins are held close to body and her tail isn't spread like her mate's.

She's still active and doesn't seem to have any problem swimming, but it concerns me.

Please let me know what you think, and what treatment, if any, she needs.

Tank conditions= 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, 12 Nitrate, Ph 7.2, 72degrees. Plenty of oxygen and heavy filtration.

Re: Clamped Fins

It could be stress - has she had any changes in her environment lately? Are there any other symptoms and/or a pic of her to post? A lot of things can cause a fish to have clamped fins and i don't want to recommend the wrong med, if she even needs a med. Water conditions can cause clamped fins but yours look good, so it could be parasites.

Re: Clamped Fins

There are no other symptoms. She eats like a pig, swims as well as she ever has.

I called a vet and they suggested that she might be ready to spawn, and she is clamping because she is uncomfortable.

Hope that's it. A really pretty fish, and I'd hate to lose her.

Thanx

Re: Clamped Fins

Sounds like good advice.. if there are no other symptoms, the thing to do is go with 'stress' as the cause for now and see how she progresses. Hopefully she'll spawn soon.
