I just saw some white spots all over my iridiscent shark. I was wondering if that would be ick And why do they get diseases for the most part?

could be ick, or could be velvet. If you think it is ick, try to move the fish to a quarantine tank and treat it with ick meds. Also raise the water temp to about 82 degrees. I had ick in my 75g. and made the mistake of treating the whole tank and killed off bacteria and sent the tank back into a cycle mode. Hope this helps.

It won't kill the good bacteria in your tank and is safe for all fish.. Raising the tank temp to 82 for a couple weeks should knock the ich out even without meds, they just help.

Velvet is: Scratching, small gold to white spots, loss of color, weight loss, difficulty breathing due to gill damage. You can turn the lights out and shine a flashlight on your shark to see if the spots are golden or not.

hi beth, welcome to fishlore, one of my friends have an irridescent shark in a huge 110 gallon tank...it is nearly 2.5' long, during winter season white spots appear on it, but when my friend uses a heater, they disappear...i think sharks get white spots when the temperature is low......may be u should try to rise the temperature a bit, i don't think any medication will be necessary.

That would excite me if all it was is the temp. I will definitely turn it up a little more then.

I went out today and bought some aquarium salt and some ick treatment. i will let you know how he turns out in a couple of days.

Hey I was just going to let everyone know that my Iridescent Shark has gone to fishy heaven. I came home and found him at the bottom of the tank. He was starting to lose the spots but i noticed today that he was swimming at the top all day so I wondered if his time was about up. but I just thought i would let you know even after all your help which i very much appreciated. Im just thinking what I could have done, I feel really bad. I turned the heat up i changed the water and used salt which i should have been doing in the first place, and i was using meds. I think a little of it has to do with I still am working on getting that 55gl.
But all the other fish are doing well so that is a plus.

aww, we're sorry the little guy didn't make it.. we've lost some fish this week ourselves and it stinks.
