If gills are read, does that mean its all over?

My guppies have slight red gills and swimming on top of the water very slowly. Amonia was higher so i vacuumed gravel to to 50% water change and added amonia detoxify pill. Will it help those two guppies survive or are they just going to die. I also have 2 zebra danios in my 10 gallon tank. Please help quickly. Thank You

They can survive ammonia poisoning, the odds are good that they'll make it. Just keep up with the water changes and monitor the ammonia closely. what is your ammonia at now? you want to get it as close to 0 as you can, but at least to .25. I'd recommend using a product called Prime to treat your tap water.

It's definately not over. Get your ammonia level down and use either prime or amquel plus to neutralize the ammonia.

Amonia is back t 0 now. Guppies do seem ok, but there is still that red color on gills. They are swimming little slower but much better than this morning. THanks for the help

that should go away as they recover. just keeping them in clean water, perhaps with some extra 25% water changes until the red goes away, should get them back to normal.
