Betta's tail is bleeding

I have had this betta for a little over 2 yrs. I'm pretty sure he has tail rot, but I'm not positive. Everytime I change its water, the red on its tail shows up. Today when I did it, the poor thing started had blood dripping from its tail. I was out of Maracyn 2, but normally that is the medication I use. It barely has a tail anymore and it looks like there has to be some type of parasite on the outside of its tail. I don't know what else to do for it. I didn't know it was so important to keep the water temperature between 75 and 80 degrees? I will from now on try and keep its water warmer, however, I don't know what to do at this point. What all could I do for my betta? Is there anything? Is the Maracyn a good medicine? I've been using it for quite awhile now and its tail is not growing back. Will it ever? I just feel like I keep prolonging its suffering by using the medication....no matter what something continues to make it bleed and make its tail grow shorter. Any suggestions, advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Betta's tail is bleeding

the poor little guy sounds like he's got a serious case of fin rot and hopefully it's not reached his body. Warmer temps will help and keeping him at 80-82 would be good if you can.
I'd recommend 2 things for him ASAP:
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...&N=2004+113021 - Trisulfa is a med that worked for us to stop a fin rot case.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...8&N=2004+22763 - VitaChem is a vitamin product that we use to strengthen our fish and help regrow fins.

Also,
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...&N=2004+112993 - NovAqua+ is a water conditioner that has additives that could help your betta.

Is he a crowntail? what are the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels? and what do you use now for water treatment?

Best of luck with him.
