Re: Agnel fish is dying

Sorry your angle is sick. Has your tank been all the way through the nitrogen cycle? Read about this Fish Tank Beginners Guides link at the bottom of this page. Are there other fish in the tank? Any other symptoms? For first age, change 50% of the water, replace with same temperature water, use de-chlorinater if you are on a system that uses water purification.

Do you have an API Master test kit? If you don't have one get one, and test your tank water. IF the ammonia or nitrites are above 0 this is probably what has caused the problem, the only solution is to do frequent (every day) water changes until the tank completes the cycle. You will know when this has occurred because the ammonia and nitrites go down to 0 and the nitrates go up. You shouldn't let them get above 10 however, so the cure for that once again are water changes.

Tell us about your tank. How big is it, what filtration do you use, and what temperature is it? All of these things give folks ideas to try and help. Best of Luck

Re: Agnel fish is dying

Part of the problem is that the tank is overstocked so the water could be high in toxic chemicals like ammonia. Angels like to have a tall tank of at least 20 gallons and the other fish would be a full load for a 10 gallon tank on their own. That testing kit to test your water as soon as possible would be very helpful.

What symptoms is she showing? does she swim any or just lie on the bottom? are her gills red or her eyes cloudy? is there anything on her body, like white threads or spots? does she seem to be breathing heavily? will she eat? does anything at all look or seem different in the other fish or the way they act?

I found one of her fin while cleaning the whole tank. now i am worried for remaining angel . Its part of the boday where the fins are connected are gone red. i have added anti fungus already to the water.

Oh, anu, I'm so sorry! I was devastated when my angel Fitzgerald died. I watched him die, I did all I could...there was just nothing else that could be done. You are trying your best, I hope your other angel will be okay.

Re: Agnel fish is dying

Anu, I think we can all say we feel your loss....... Angel fish are so lovely, and if it was a mated pair, even harder to take. Just keep in mind a cycled tank will help all your fish be healthier, with less stress which can allow sickness to take hold.
Water changes will help, but the best thing is to make sure before you make any other changes to your tank that it is fully cycled, and not overstocked.

Best of Luck

Anu, I lost my angels really quickly too. I don't know why. I suspect it was nitrogen cycle, but I'll never know. I hope your other angel makes it. Really sorry about your angel.

We're so to hear that you lost your angel. Is your other Angel showing any other symptoms, particularly red streaks?

I kind of feel the same as you. I love animals so much I want them around me. But perhaps that's being selfish as am not able to give them anything like natural conditions. On the other hand, the pet trade is there and established, whether I contribute to it or not, and at least the ones I get, I have some control over their quality of life. It's a big responsibility as I am a beginner too, and keep making mistakes which are costly to their health. I just hope that I can have most survive my beginners' mistakes so I learn and get better at taking good care of them.

I don't know what I would do in your situation. It must be quite disheartening. You show all hte good will in the world and it doesn't work out.

Re: Agnel fish is dying

I know it feels bad to lose a wonderful fish, but i hope you will feel like giving some new fish a home. The fish we buy at the store - many, if not all, of them would be unable to survive in the wild - over years or breeding, their 'natural environment' now is aquariums.

I am so sorry to hear about your fish losses. Please don't get too discouraged. Your fish probably have much more of a chance of survival than someone who doesn't know the basics about fishkeeping! Just make sure that your ammonia and nitrites are always at zero, and that your nitrates don't get above 10 or 20, and have a routine of maintenance. I do 50% waterchanges in all my tanks weekly, and that seems to work for me. You can't do too many waterchanges on a cycled tank!

Re: Agnel fish is dying

sorry to see you lost your fish. please dont let this put you off. perhaps spend some time on fishlore reading all you can, then cycle you tank without fish (read up the nitrogen cycle on how to do this) then add a few danios or something hardy. angels are difficult fish to keep especially when in an uncycled tank. i know you want the best for your fish. i felt the same when i went through a rough time with my first fish.
all the best of luck anyway
should you go back to fishkeeping any questions just ask
