help! fish starting to fade in color.

hi all, i have this honey red gourami...which i've had for about 2 months now.
the color on him has faded and he's become malnutritioned looking, but everytime i do feedings, he eats...
and he doesn't seem to be acting any different than before.
what could be wrong?

Re: help! fish starting to fade in color.

It could be nutrition related, or it could be stress. I've noticed my serpaes and rainbows sometimes fade, and then later are as bright as ever, all in the same day. Have you tested your water parameters recently? What else is in the tank with the gourami?

Re: help! fish starting to fade in color.

I think it is just as normal as a tan for us. Their colour may change due to diet, color enhancing flakes, or sunlight or tank light. My black skrts change from dark skirts and black stipes to grey stripes with a golden hue on the body and white skirts. it can happen a couple times a week./ nothing seems wrong and i am not worried about them. keep a close eye on them. maybe start a journal you keep near the fish tank so you can look back and maybe see some patterns.

what do you feed your gourami? i'd recommend a diet including vitamin pellets and/or vitachem (to put in the tank water) and color pellets for bettas (I think they'd be good for all the fish in the betta's family.
