You learn the hard way

STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!!!
I know you should never put a new fish into a good tank, I know you should use a quarenteen tank... but did I?? NO! I had to go and be stupid! I saw a really pretty angelfish, perfect fins, long streaming tail. Looked really active... so I bought him before I bought a small tank to quarenteen him in. Figured I'd take the chance.
2 days later my tank was ravished with the worst cotton fungus I've ever seen. Fungus was starting to form on the sides of the glass, my Cory cats were dead and floating around, and my tetra's were covered. And even though I started treating the tank that second, they all died the next day. The only survivors were my 2 angelfish: Sparkle and the new one (Skrinkle) and Paublo the pleco. Guess angels are pretty tough.
Well, it's been a week and the tank is finally cleared up. I guess sometimes you have to learn the hard way... payday I'm buying an 8 gallon biocube to use for new fish.

That stinks, sorry to hear about the cotton fungus outbreak and those angels are a lot heartier than i thought i guess. Always thought of them as more fragile. We've done the same thing with just adding a fish & taking a chance.. not going to happen again with us either. Best of luck with the new tank and new fish.

I was surprised Sparkle made it, but very relieved, he's definitly my favorite fish... this is a picture of him. When I got him he had finrot, but survived that as well.. Guess he's got a pretty hardy immune system.

Sparkle has amazing color! I've never seen an angelfish with color like that at the local petco (our only place in town). They are beautiful fish and I think we'd have gotten into them sooner, but always had the idea they were fragile. You know, we want so many fish, maybe we should just move into a fish store. He's definitely a hardy fish as well as great looking. I'm glad he made it.

Wow! I'm so sorry your fish died! I can't say that I have never added new fish to a tank without placing them in quarantine, so you are not alone. I'm glad your angels made it.

gunnie, I know, I just didn't have the $$$ to buy another tank, and the other angel was too pretty to turn down.

FLBettaCouple: The LFS called it a "super-red" angel. I never heard of it either. He's sort of a red-gold with very long fins... but not veiled. And so far he's been pretty tough for an angel.

Now that I've seen yours, i'll be keeping an eye out whenever I see a batch of angels to see if any of them are "super-red". Definitely an appealing fish and to me, the most appealing angel coloring i've seen.
