Best Way To Help A Koi Grow Back Tail After Bout Of Fin-Rot?

One of my co-workers recently treated a Butterfly Koi for fin-rot and mentioned to me it's tail wasn't growing back... I stopped keeping Koi a couple of years ago, so I'm at a loss as far as helping him goes.. can anyone help out?

If the finrot is gone then extremely clean water and patience are in order.
